What is the difference between Professional Development Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and academic units awarded by San José State University?

Grading Method

    • CEUs are graded as CR/NC/I (Credit-No Credit, Incomplete) grades. CEUs may not be applied to a degree program, but are used and recognized nationally to document the type, quality and duration of coursework.  Grades are posted throughout the term. A CEU is generally defined as being equal to 10 class hours (50-minute hour).  A record of CEUs earned is maintained in the Professional Development records office and a transcript can be provided by submitting a written request using the form located at http://pd.sjsu.edu
    • In order to receive a credit for a course, you must abide by the following guidelines:

          • -CR = Credit. You have paid all fees and have completed all course requirements including 80% attendance and first session.

          • -NC = No Credit. You did not complete all course requirements and/or did not meet the standards required for the course credit, including, but not limited to, 80% attendance.

          • -I = Incomplete. You have an assignment pending and due to the instructor.  An INC is the responsibility of the student and instructor and must be reconciled no later than the end of the current term.
